Marketplace: Gazebo RP Empty Marketplace: Gazebo RP

Post by The J on Thu Aug 21, 2008 5:11 am

Well hopefully DNA stickies this. But anyway; here's something to make things fun. I'm intending to generate a marketplace and freeform RP area. The marketplace idea is simple. Gazebo currency is called Buxxorz. Around the Gazebo world they take a variety of forms- a credit card, gold bars, crumpled foil, a coin in a blister pack, pieces of scroll paper. Almost anything so have fun describing it if you'd like. One way or the other, your GM will be awarding you Buxxorz during campaigns/ quests and during some games that we will create that your characters can participate in. I will be making all sorts of fun things in here- pets, gear, vehicles, even slaves/ hirelings for those of you who are into that. Ultimately it is up to your GM to decide what gear you can bring on a campaign but this gives people the opportunity to mix up their character's retinue and gear set, as well as explore the possibilities of the game without necessarily having to slough through the tedium of a campaign to buy them. I'll try to make some quests and minigames soon as well as background on the location of the markets and the freeform areas.

Hope to see you guys doing more RPing.

Cassius marketplace:

The Echochamber Maw:
Deep within the icy plains of Kamchatka in the East Siberian Plane, there is cavernous entrance to a frightening underworld. To call it the mouth of Hell or the Jaws of Death would be an appropriate description. The volcanic activity underground has allowed Vozhd living digging machines, undead Necros crews, Tierisch Mole Mimics, Cytherian Telekinetiks, and Thanatos Stoneburners alike to find a niche in this underground labyrinth. The volcanism in the area prevent a sensor lock from those who would think about bombing it from space. This city's defense is given added meaning from an electromagnetic Palisade class shield generator powered by the very magma it sits in, reverse engineered by the Cytherians who tortured a Monestary colonial expedition to figure out how it worked.
It is said that in one's lifetime, it is impossible to explore it all its contents or commit a vast majority of it to memory since new caverns are being shaped all day and old ones are collapsing or are altered. The Vozhd section resembles an alien lair, while Cytherian regions seemingly bend the laws of physics and reality. Thanatos areas, resemble a dark, glass crystal and polished obsidian landscape, Nekros dominate the mass grave and junkyards, while Tierisch areas while relatively normal looking are typically kept hidden through illusory mimicry and trap doors. This is the largest common area for Cassii in the world and is about the only place you'll see large groups of them intermingle without fighting amongst themselves. Want to buy a Nekros tech Scythe enhanced by a Cytherian Neural Amplifyer? Steal someone's memories with a Tierisch cyberviral implant? More organs from the Vozhd? Or even just classic old TNT. Now's your chance. Just remember- DON'T WINDOWSHOP! You'd best not overstay your welcome in an out of clan area. These guys want your money, not your company... unless you are a slave or an information broker. The Slave Markets of Lethe are here and you can find a servitor for anything regardless of how depraved or monstrous your desired task.
With large areas revealing magma pit sinkholes, it is easy to understand why even the hardiest have died or been lost exploring this place. Why the legends say if you go deep enough into the Maw, you will find that you have found the entrance to Hell. Indeed Cytherian mystics believe there is an immense anomaly in these caverns and that these legends are based on the experiences of men who have found the first levels of The Warp. The lower levels as such are avoided by even the most battle ready Vozhd and Cytherian's psychic powers begin going haywire and there are tales of demons and things unnatural even for a Cassius that roam those shadowed lands. In the Echochamber Maw, only the strong can survive.

Julian marketplace:

The Cathedral Factories of IXium:
In the early days of the Monastery Clan, they set out into space in immense basestars, towering Kilometers into the sky and floating on anti graviton rings up into high orbit over earth. The greatest of these was Fortress City 9 (IX). The citizens, after hundreds of years called themselves, niners, and subsequently a youth trend swept the city of calling it IX (icks). Eventually the city became so large, several asteroids were tractored in and several ships dismantled to create a hodgepodge menagerie of decentralized systems and eventually the first cathedral factory.
The cathedral drydock/tankyards are sacred ground to the Monastery and add to the seemingly religious fervor with which they build the damn things. Each one is unique and many parts are hand built meaning Cathedral repair or reverse engineering is practically impossible to even other Monestary cities.
IXium became a hub for commerce when it gained full control on its orbit round the earth. In deep space zero G, it was possible to synthesize exotic alloys, precious metals, virtual particles, and other things not otherwise possible in the burden of earth gravity. The IXium descends to sub orbital levels several times a year to hold festivals, celebrating with massive sales and parties. The city dips so low its outer areas get a somewhat breathable atmosphere and the extremely daring can find some salespeople even on the outside! Indeed the best parts can often be obtained from these nutty merchants. Space is a premium during the festivals and there are people and mechs everywhere. The festival is a chance to get all sorts of things done. Whether the Harbinger impound lot auction, the Monastery game and tech convention, The Brutus physical arts display (I hear they sell lessons too), The McGuiver invention festival, or the Kypris exotic weapons workshop (they claim all items are grey market at worst but some seem to skirt the law. With so many during the festival there's nothing stopping them anyway) there's something for everyone.
The city's architecture is a slew of several design styles from post modern/ art deco, to a neoclassical cathedral style with transparent metals used as feaux stained glass. There's always new contruction and there is scaffolding and exposed superstructure all the time giving the city's general aesthetic a steamtech industrial look. The mech contruction yards make it clear that the Monastery are not afraid to blend form with function. Even the contruction robots look like sculptured works of art and reflect various facets of Monestary society from the austere to the whacky.
The city's mass has increased so much that the zero g synthesis rooms aren't really zero G anymore! As a result the finest zero g alloys and materials were created long in IXium's past and much of the technique from that time has since been lost.. Even now however; a traveling stranger will set up shop with an item that may just be something more than it seems.

COMING SOON!

Lost Concord Citadel:
There are rumours of a mobile undersea city, synonymous with the word for: harmony in music; a pact; an agreement in different parts of a phrase. This place is almost as mythic as the Gazeebo itself.

Merchants: I will be generating a number of merchants as NPCs. Treat them like any other in game character. I might even generate stat sheets eventually. You will earn influence bonuses/ demerits with them through RP interaction. For now I guess I'm GMing them unless my own character is interacting with a merchant. Eventually if you are in good enough with them you can get discounts/ secret or free stuff/ get them to help you.

example:
*Player 1; male, gives Merchant 1 a gift of flowers and a basket of chocolates.
*Merchant 1 being of the female persuasion, accepts this flattering gift and tells Player 1 of Quest X which if he completes will earn him a secret item from the store.

Or your character may piss them off so much they ban you from the store or try scamming you.

example:
*Player 1; male, gives Merchant 2 a gift of flowers and a basket of chocolates.
*Merchant 2, being also male, finds your behavior insulting and is disgusted that you implied he was a homosexual. He will now rape you to prove otherwise....
jk

more to the point:
*Player 1 decides that he doesn't like Merchant 1's face, and takes a dump on her sale items. He then proceeds to rip the skull from her assistant's head and uses it to explode the storefront window into glass shards leaving Merchant 1 weeping uncontrollably and bloody.
*Merchant 1 if you ever decide to return to her will now probably send you on a suicide mission or sell you defective or usless junk.

There may be some benefits with OTHER merchants if you don't get along with certain ones. You'll just have to figure it out as you go.
